年柱、月柱、日柱、時柱各有一個天干與地支，共八字。出生時間未知時不列時柱。
如何讀四柱八字
四柱把出生時刻排列為年、月、日、時四組天干地支。本指南說明基礎語法，不用單一符號為人生下定論。
日主是參照點
日柱上方的天干為日主，代表自我。五行與十神關係以此為參照，但日主本身不能代表全盤。
五行描述變化
木火土金水不是單純物質，而是五種互動階段。生剋循環用來描述支持、輸出、約束和轉化。
十神整理關係
十神按五行與陰陽比較其他天干和日主。它們不是吉凶排名，也不是字面上的神。
年柱月柱依節氣交替
四柱的年、月以太陽節氣為界。四柱新年從約2月4日立春開始，可能不同於元旦和農曆新年。
